Firefighters battle recycling plant fire in PhoenixPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Nearly 100 firefighters battle a second-alarm fire at a recycling plant in southwest Phoenix.
Extra crews were called in from other fire departments to assist in fighting the blaze, which burned through bundled paper at the Friedman Recycling plant near 35th Avenue and Lincoln Street.
The fire began just before 1 p.m. on Friday. Black smoke could be seen in the sky for several miles.
This marks the sixth time the recycling plant has caught fire in the last 15 years. No one suffered any injuries.
Firefighters worked to protect surrounding business structures.
At this time, the cause of the fire is unknown.
