White children a minority in several states, including Arizona

Posted: Updated:

A new survey of census date finds white children have become a minority in ten states and in 35 cities nationwide.

That includes Tucson and Arizona.

A Brookings Institute review of 2010 census information indicates the number of white children in the U.S. dropped by 4.3 million since 2000.

Meanwhile, Hispanic and Asian child populations grew by 5.5 million.

Whites make up nearly two thirds of the adult population in Arizona, but just under 42% of kids statewide are white.

About 43% of kids in phoenix are white, but in Tucson it's just over 36%.
