Tucson headlines: Arrest in death of teen; Woman arrested for child abuse; East side house fire; UA student critical after accident

TUCSON, Ariz. -- The young man wanted in the death of a teenage girl behind a high school Friday night is now under arrest.

Jaime chavez, 18, was found in Douglas.

He'll be charged in the shooting death of 16-year-old Britney Wright. She was involved in a fight behind Eastpointe High School Friday and along with another girl was shot after the fight broke up.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- A 21-year-old woman is under arrest for child abuse.

University Medical Center staffers reported Blanca Montano. After they ruled out any medical explanation for the illness they concluded she caused her 7-month-old daughter's symptoms.

The girl's condition improved significantly. Her mother wasn't allowed to visit.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- Tucson firefighters responded to a house fire on the east side.  It happened around 6:30 P.M. near Speedway and Houghton.

A passerby reported seeing smoke and flames and when firefighters arrived, they were able to quickly put it out.

A TFD spokesperson says it appeared to be an electrical fire that started in the wall.

Damage was minimal.


TUCSON, Ariz. -- A traffic crash Tuesday morning left one U of A student in critical condition.

A man in a car ran a right light and hit two vehicles and a student bicyclist at Park and Speedway.

The man's car ended up near a gas pump at a Circle K.

The driver says he tried to swerve out of the of way after running the light and lost control of his car.

The student in the hospital with serious injuries but is expected to be okay.
