Crews battle massive blaze at Queen Creek homePosted: Updated:
QUEEN CREEK, Ariz. – Gilbert firefighters responded to an emergency call shortly after 4 p.m. Tuesday.
Neighbors say they heard pops and went outside to see what was going on.
"Some lady was running around ringing people's doorbells saying the house was on fire," said 16-year-old Joshua Bird.
Joshua then called 911.
The first fire crews to arrive went inside the home searching for people.
"They had limited visibility at that time from the smoke that had already entered the livable space of the house, which is uncommon in garage fires unless it has been burning for a while," Capt. Mark Justus said.
It appears nobody was inside. Neighbors said the homeowner, her son and dogs were all able to get out safely.
No one was seriously hurt. One firefighter suffered minor injuries after a roof tile popped off and hit him in the face.
The cause of this fire remains under investigation.
