Marijuana found in Glendale home after burglary, shootingPosted: Updated:
GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Police converged on a West Valley neighborhood after shots rang out early Monday morning.
It started with a reported burglary at a home near 75th Avenue and Bethany Home Road in Glendale. According to police, the two men who live in that home are nowhere to be found.
Glendale police said they were first alerted to the situation when neighbors called 911 to report gunfire shortly after 4 a.m.
When officers arrived on the scene, several area residents were holding down a man who had been injured, reportedly when he was tackled while trying to get away. While neighbors told police that the man does not live in the home that was allegedly targeted, it’s not clear if he is a suspect or a victim. That man, who has not been identified, was taken to a local hospital.
Several suspects reportedly fled the scene after the shots were fired. In addition, the two men who live in the home at the center of the incident told neighbors they were being robbed, and then left the area. Officers would like to talk to those men, but so far, they have not been found.
Police did a safety sweep of the house and said nobody was inside.
Investigators served a search warrant on the home and found a large quantity of marijuana and evidence of gunfire. At this point, it appears that the home was specifically targeted because of the illegal drug activity occurring inside.
