Brian Smith By Jennifer Thomas
PHOENIX – One man was killed in an overnight shooting in Phoenix. The suspect in that shooting was arrested late Friday night.
It happened shortly before midnight in a parking lot of an apartment complex in the area of 28th Street and Thomas Road.
According to police, Tyrone Hodge and his girlfriend were sitting in a car when another man walked up and shot Hodge three times through the window. The suspect then fled the scene. He reportedly never said a word.
Hodge, 32, was taken to a local hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.
The woman, whose name police are keeping private for the moment, was not injured.
Investigators have not released many details about the case except to say the suspect, identified as Brian Smith, 28, fled in a white sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger.
The car in which Hodge was killed, an older model Thunderbird, has been towed to the police impound lot. Officers were awaiting a warrant that will allow them to search the vehicle for evidence.
Detectives have not yet uncovered a motive for the shooting, nor do they know if Hodge and Smith were acquainted with each other.
Smith was booked in jail and facing first degree homicide charges.
