Pot busts in Southern ArizonaPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- More than $2.2 million worth of pot was rounded up near Sonoita last week.
Boarder Patrol agents dealt with all sorts of smuggler tactics including trying to blend in with residents evacuating the area because of wildfire.
Many smugglers used hidden compartments in their vehicles to move the drugs.
And federal agents found 5,000 pounds of marijuana inside a truck loaded with watermelons.
The department of Homeland Security says a 36-year old Mexican man tried getting through a cargo gate at Nogales when drug sniffing dogs detected the 244 bales of marijuana.
This is the second drug bust border patrol officers have made involving produce.
Last week, officers discovered bundles of marijuana inside a shipment of bell peppers.
