Nady has grand slam in D-backs' 15-8 win over Cubs

MESA, Ariz. (AP) -- Xavier Nady hit a grand slam to highlight an eight-run fourth inning to lead a split squad of Arizona Diamondbacks to a 15-8 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday night.

David Winfree hit two home runs for the Diamondbacks, and Kelly Johnson added his fourth of the spring.

Joe Saunders (1-3), Arizona's No. 3 starter, gave up eight runs and six hits in 3 2-3 inningsHe walked four and struck out two.

Cubs starter Matt Garza (1-4) gave up 11 hits and seven hits with seven strikeouts in three-plus innings. His spring ERA rose to 10.38.
 

Ryan Roberts powers Diamondbacks to 11-4 win

PHOENIX (AP) -- Ryan Roberts hit a grand slam, closer J.J. Putz (puts) gave up one run in his return from injury and a split squad of Arizona Diamondbacks defeated Monterrey of the Mexican League 11-4 Tuesday night.

Roberts, who came into the game leading the majors with a .519 average and .609 on-base percentage, went 1 for 2 with a walk and now has 15 RBIs and 14 walks in 30 games.

The home run was his first of the spring.

Putz, who had been sidelined with a stiff back since March 18 and hadn't appeared in a game since March 16, struck out three in the ninth inning but also hit a batter, walked one and gave up an
RBI single.

Brandon Allen added a home run, and Justin Upton and Chris Young each had two RBIs.
