Loughner medical exam ruling changedPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- A judge hearing the case of accused Tucson gunman Jared Loughner, wants to change his own ruling ordering a mental exam.
The judge ordered Loughner transfered to a Missouri medical prison for the exam last week, to determine whether he's competent to stand trial.
The judge also ruled Loughner could seek a separate exam by an independent psychiatrist.
But in documents filed Monday, the judge says that's a mistake. The second evaluation should still be done by a court-appointed psychiatrist rather than one sought by Loughner's attorneys.
Loughner pleaded not guilty to dozens of charges from January's mass shooting in Tucson.
