NASA's Operation IceBridgePosted: Updated:
GREENBELT, Md. -- NASA is on a brand-new mission to explore our planet.
April Warnecke talked to Dr. Tom Wagner, who checked in live from the U.S. Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland.
Operation IceBridge is flying planes over the Arctic. Wagner explained what the planes can show experts that satellites cannot.
IceBridge is a six-year mission that is the largest airborne survey of Earth's polar ice. The surveys will give scientists a look at the behavior of the rapidly changing features and behavior of the ice.
The first IceBridge flights were conducted in March/May 2009 over Greenland and in October/November 2009 over Antarctica.
