Medical marijuana rules for Ariz. distribution made publicPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- The Arizona Department of Health Services released its rules for medical marijuana use and distribution Monday.
The state health department has been working for months to develop regulations after Arizona voters approved the use of medical marijuana last fall.
Arizona Department of Health Services Director Will Humble has said his goal was to make sure only those who truly need medical marijuana get it, unlike other states with less stringent rules.
Among the proposed requirements: patients must get a marijuana recommendation from a doctor licensed in Arizona who has either been treating them for a year or who takes primary responsibility for a patient's care.
Patients can begin applying for marijuana cards on April 14. Those applications must be submitted online.
Applications for dispensaties will be accepted June 1-30.
