Record heat this week

PHOENIX -- Ready or not, the heat is coming!  After a weekend of Valley highs in the 70s, we're in for a big warm-up this week.

Monday brings mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s.

By Wednesday, we'll be in the upper 80s as a ridge of high pressure builds over the Southwest.  As that ridge strengthens, desert highs will top out in the mid 90s Thursday, and near 100 in some spots on Friday.

The current forecast calls for 97 in Phoenix on Friday. The record high for April 1 is 96 degrees.

Fortunately, the record heat won't last.  By Sunday afternoon, high temperatures are forecast to come back down to the 80s.

Mostly clear nights and sunny days are expected through the week.
