Over a ton of pot seized in southern Ariz. near Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – More than a ton of marijuana was seized by border agents near Tucson during two separate incidents Thursday.

Agents assigned to the Tucson sector located a load of marijuana hidden in the west desert brush using surveillance technology. Officers reached the location and found 31 bundles of pot weighing more than 1,600 pounds with a street value of more than $730,000.

The second bust began when agents received a call about a suspicious vehicle heading north of Sells. When border agents responded, the driver had abandoned the car in the desert.

Agents discovered 30 bundles of marijuana inside the car, weighing 631 pounds with a street value of about $280,000. Both the car and drugs were seized.
