Host Bob Lee interviews Joseph Blair, Executive Director, Arizona Basketball Alumni Foundation, a non-profit, 501(c)3, organization formed for the purpose of giving back to the Tucson community. It is not affiliated with the University of Arizona or its Athletic Department.
Blair says the foundation was established specifically to lend a helping hand to a city that has given so much to all of former UA basketball players and staff. He says the A.B.A.F. is a way for all of the basketball alumni and their fellowship of friends to combine their philanthropic ideals and efforts as a team. He says the founders realized that without the support and love of the Tucson community the success that they achieved in the UA basketball programs could not have been possible.
He says the group works to make a difference through helping other Tucson charities in their fund raising efforts, developing programs to assist in the culturing of the Tucson youth, and to raise awareness of vital programs already in place around the community. He says an ABAF member will provide a “face” for a fundraising event, and will work with the committees putting on the event to secure media coverage and otherwise strive to make the event a success.
Blair says the Foundation does not donate money to charities. The goal, he says, is to maximize the chances for a successful fundraiser.
