Immigration bill controversy at Capitol and specific abortion bans bill to face votePosted: Updated:
A fair amount of controversy at the state Capitol following the defeat of five anti-immigration bills backed by republican leaders.
Not all of it has to do with the vote itself, some centers on a letter sent just beforehand.
And the hot-button of abortion was in the spotlight monday with the Senate poised to vote on a bill prohibiting abortions on the basis of race or sex of the fetus or the race of a parent.
This could allow suits and civil fines against providers who knowingly perform abortions for those reasons.
The House has already approved the measure, but if it passes the Senate, it would be sent back to the House to consider changes.
