E-verify available to Arizonan wanting to check employment statusPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX, Ariz. -- Arizona is among the states where E-verify will be available to immigrants and anyone else looking to check their employment status.
Would be workers can now go on a government database to verify their own status, instead of having to wait for an employer to check for them.
"Beginning today, for the first time, individuals in 5 states and the District of Columbia will be able to check their own employment eligibility status before seeking a job. This new service is voluntary. It's fast. It's free and importantly it is secure," said Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano.
In addition to Arizona, Idaho, Colorado, Mississippi and Virginia are offering the service. In the next year the plan is to offer it in all states.
