FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- State Route 89A is closed in both directions between Flagstaff and Sedona (Forest Highlands at milepost 397 and Pine Flats at milepost 387) due to winter driving conditions and incidents on the roadway.

The closure is expected to last several hours as the Arizona Department of Transportation works with the Department of Public Safety to clear the road.

Motorists can travel between Sedona and Flagstaff using Interstate 17, according to ADOT spokesman Timothy Tait. Northbound I-17 was closed at Stoneman Lake Road for several hours Monday due to winter weather, but those lanes reopened around 2 p.m.

Snow is still falling in the Flagstaff area and motorists are advised to use extra caution moving through the area.

Arizona Department of Public Safety officers have responded to numerous weather-related collisions and slide-offs beginning about 60 miles west of Flagstaff on Interstate 40. Two of the crashes involved fatalities.

One woman died after the Toyota SUV she was in crashed on I-40 near Williams Monday morning. DPS officers are still investigating the crash.
