Boy critical after getting stuck while trying to climb through windowPosted: Updated:
SURPRISE, Ariz. – A Surprise boy is in critical condition after losing consciousness while trying to climb through a window into his mother’s house.
Officers responded to a home near 141th Avenue and west Pinnacle Peak on Thursday morning after receiving reports of an injury to a child.
Police say the 3-year-old boy slept at his grandmother’s house Wednesday night, which is adjacent to his mother’s home.
The boy’s grandmother said she first checked on the child at 5:30 a.m. When she checked on him again two hours later she discovered he was not in her house.
The 3-year-old was found unresponsive after getting trapped in a window at his mother’s house.
His grandmother performed CPR on the boy while the grandfather called paramedics.
Police say it appears the child left his grandmother’s house and went to his mother’s home about 300 yards away. Both homes are on the same property.
Detectives believe the child tried to crawl through the window when it slid down and trapped him. Police say the boy lost consciousness due to asphyxiation because of the position he was in.
His mother was not home at the time of the incident. The 3-year-old is currently on life support and is listed in critical condition.
Police say this was a tragic accident and criminal charges are not expected to be filed.
