Chandler man gets 25 years in toddler's deathPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- A Chandler man convicted of fatally throwing his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter on a cement floor has been sentenced to 25 years in prison and lifetime probation.
Jeremias Joel Aguilar pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and attempted child abuse in the case.
Police say the girl wasn't breathing when they arrived at her home in June 2009. Doctors found that she was brain-dead and also had cigarette burns and bruises covering her body.
Police say Aguilar initially told them the girl fell down but eventually told them that he became so angry with her for crying that he threw her on the concrete floor.
The 21-year-old had been living with his girlfriend and her daughter for four months, and told police he had hit both of them in the past.
