PHOENIX - A U.S. Army soldier with ties to Arizona died March 5 while serving with Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Mark C. Wells, 31, died in Helmand province after he was wounded by insurgents who attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.
He was assigned to the 45th Sustainment Brigade, 8th Theater Sustainment Command, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.
Wells was originally from San Jose, California, but his wife and son now reside in the Phoenix-metro.
