Fire tears through Maryvale homePosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – Investigators are trying to determine what sparked a large fire at a Maryvale home Saturday afternoon.
It happened at about 4 p.m. in the neighborhood of 51st Avenue and Camelback Road.
The five people who live in the home were there when fire started in a shed in back of the house. A neighbor across the street captured video of the huge flames. The fire quickly spread to the house itself, but firefighters were able to get things under control within minutes of arriving on the scene.
Thick black smoke pouring from the home was visible for quite some distance. Neighbors even reported hearing what they described as explosions, but crews on the scene have not found anything that might have caused that.
“There is a car in back, [so it] could have been tires popping” said Capt. Jose Amarillas of the Phoenix Fire Department. “We didn’t find any evidence of any propane tanks or flammable storage, that type of thing.”
No injuries were reported.
