MESA, Ariz. -- A clothes hamper helped thwart a burglary attempt in Mesa Thursday morning.

Mesa police Detective Michael Melendez said Michael Trias, 20, removed a screen over an open bedroom window of a townhome near Alma School Road and University Drive at approximately 9 a.m.

As he climbed through the window, he got entangled in a clothes hamper just below it.

The resident was in the bathroom and heard the commotion. He restrained the suspect, called police and moved the suspect outside to was for the officers.

Melendez said some damage occurred inside the bedroom, but nothing was taken.

Trias was booked for burglary and criminal damage.
