ASU robbery suspect arrested in MesaPosted: Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State police and the U.S. Marshal Major Felony Task Force arrested an armed robbery suspect Wednesday night at his Mesa apartment.
Shelven Jason Gasaway Jr. was charged for the armed robbery of a student inside a parking structure on the ASU Tempe campus on March 3. According to ASU police, the suspect took the student's money clip and cell phone at gunpoint.
ASU police detectives were able to find Gasaway after following up on leads generated from television broadcasts of a surveillance photo of the suspect.
Upon further investigation, police discovered Gasaway had a felony warrant from California for a sex offense and assault with a deadly weapon.
ASU police and U.S. marshals arrested Gasaway for the warrant and then were able to serve a search warrant on his apartment.
The gun used in the ASU robbery, along with the victim's property, including identification, was found.
Gasaway was booked into the Maricopa County Jail on armed robbery, misconduct involving weapons and a sex offender registration violation.
