Mesa police search for bank robbery suspect

MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police officers are searching for a bank robbery suspect who got away with an undisclosed amount of cash.

Shortly after 10 a.m. Wednesday, officers responded to a robbery at the Wells Fargo Bank located near Mesa Drive and Brown Road.

According to Detective Michael Melendez with the Mesa Police Department, the suspect entered the Bashas' store and went over to the bank. He handed the teller a note demanding money and stating that he had a gun.

The teller complied with his demands then the suspect left the store and went toward the parking lot. The area was searched, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect is described as a Native American male in his 20s, 5 feet 5 inches tall and 170 pounds. He was wearing a brown zip-up sweatshirt, light blue jeans and a tan baseball hat.
