MESA, Ariz. - Maricopa County sheriff's deputies were flagged down by a Department of Economic Security employee who was chasing a kidnapping suspect early Monday morning.

According to deputies, the natural birth mother of the 3-year-old child was scheduled for a supervised visit with a DES worker.

When the three met in the DES parking lot at 11518 E. Apache Trail, the birth mother allegedly assaulted the DES worker, grabbed her child and fled on foot.

The child was found unharmed and the natural birth mother, Kimberly Vasich, was arrested.

The child was returned safely to her foster parents.

Vasich, 42, had her custodial rights suspended from the child due to a child abuse case.

She was arrested and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail on assault, kidnapping and on a warrant for a driving violation.
