SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- With 1.2 million Twitter followers, Amy Martin is digital royalty.  So when the 31-year-old social media entrepreneur wanted to learn more about Lasik surgery, she turned to Twitter to discuss the procedure with others, ask questions, and evaluate doctors.

Twitter is where Martin ran into Dr. Jay Schwartz of the Schwartz Laser Eye Center in Scottsdale.  The two had met before when Martin was directing digital media efforts for the Phonix Suns and Schwartz was the team's official ophthalmologist.

Schwartz  invited Martin to come in for a consultation (and provided an impressive endorsement from Suns forward Grant Hill), she quickly obliged.

Once it was determined that she did indeed need the Lasik procedure, Martin began brainstorming a way to bring her experience to the digital audience.  After some gentle persuading, Dr. Schwartz agreed to open his operating room to the world through a live video stream.

Martin's surgery will take place at 11:30 a.m. MST (1:30 EST) on Friday, March 4.  You can watch the procedure live in the video window above.
