MESA, Ariz. -- Mesa police officers are searching for a suspect who jumped in a woman's car and drove off Thursday night.

Officers were dispatched to the Valero Gas Station near McKellips Road and Mesa Drive shortly before midnight.

According to Detective Michael Melendez with the Mesa Police Department, a 27-year-old woman had parked her 1999 Gray Isuzu Trooper in front of the water machine at the front of the store.

Melendez said the keys were in the vehicle, but it was not running.

As the victim was getting water, a Hispanic male got in her vehicle and started to drive away. The woman grabbed the driver's side door handle in an attempt to open the door. Melendez said the woman was dragged a short distance and then thrown to the ground.

The suspect then drove out of the parking lot.

The victim had several minor scrapes and bruises and was treated by Mesa firefighters then transported to Arizona Regional Hospital.

The suspect and vehicle have not been located.

The suspect is described as 40 to 45 years old, 5 feet 5 inches tall, 170 pounds with gray hair and a mustache. He was wearing beige slacks and a white shirt.
