PHOENIX, Ariz. – A woman is under arrest for allegedly sparking an apartment fire that displaced dozens of people.

Up to 50 people are homeless following the apartment blaze Monday just before 9 p.m. at Las Cascadas Apartments near 44th Street and Indian School Road.

The fire reportedly started in a second-story apartment, sending heavy smoke into the courtyard. Several apartments were destroyed.

"After investigators talked to her [suspect], she has admitted she did start that fire so this is ruled as an arson fire," said Phoenix fire Capt. Scott Walker.

The suspect, who has been identified as Tiffanie Worz, was taken into custody.
