Fire destroys Phoenix cell phone store, shoe shopPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – Some Phoenix business owners will spend today surveying the damage left behind by a fire.
It happened at about 9 p.m. Sunday near 27th Avenue and Van Buren Street.
Firefighters said flames were clearly visible and smoke was billowing from the building when they arrived on the scene.
The businesses were closed for the night so nobody was in the building when the fire started.
The building used to be a tire shop, but was converted into retail space for several businesses, including Five Star Cellular and a purse and shoe shop.
Most of those businesses had roll-up security doors, which made it difficult for firefighters to get inside.
While the structure reportedly is intact, the flames destroyed everything inside. There is heavy smoke and fire damage to all of the businesses. It’s likely that none of them will be open for the foreseeable future.
No injuries were reported.
It’s not known what sparked the fire.
