Woman dies after being shot by random stranger in parking lotPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – A woman is dead after a man followed her and a friend into a parking lot where he shot her.
Police say the victim, identified as Alexcia Salsberry, 22, and a friend got into an altercation and pulled into the parking lot of a tire shop in the 5000 block of west McDowell Road on Sunday at about 2 a.m.
A Hispanic man in his 20s with a bald or shaved head wearing a light-colored shirt approached in an SUV and played the part of a good Samaritan.
The suspect reportedly drove up next to the Jeep Cherokee the women were in and asked if everything was all right. When the women said everything was fine he started to pull away.
Sgt. Tommy Thompson of the Phoenix Police Department said a “pop” sound was heard and the victim’s friend discovered Salsberry, who was sitting in the passenger seat, had been shot through the rear of the Jeep.
The suspect fled the scene in the SUV, which investigators believe was a 2000 to 2005 white Ford Expedition.
The friend got help from bystanders and Salsberry was taken to a local hospital where she died.
Anyone with information on the suspect, his car or the crime is asked to call Phoenix police or Silent Witness at 480-WITNESS.
