BUCKEYE, Ariz.-- Department of Public Safety officers discovered approximately 150 pounds of marijuana inside a car after a high-speed chase on State Route 85 Wednesday morning.
The pursuit began northbound on SR 85 just south of Interstate 10 in the Buckeye area when an officer attempted to stop a white Pontiac for a traffic violation, according to DPS spokesman Officer Bob Bailey.
The driver did not pull over and led the officer on a brief vehicle pursuit, reportedly reaching speeds of 120 mph.
The pursuit ended on eastbound I-10 just east of Dysart Road where the four occupants of the vehicle fled on foot. They were eventually taken into custody by DPS officers and Maricopa County sheriff's deputies, who responded to provide assistance.
The four Hispanic males are suspected of being in the country illegally.
Bailey said the car was loaded with approximately 150 pounds of marijuana. The exact amount is still being determined.
