PHOENIX -- The drug that creates a high similar to marijuana is no longer legal in Arizona.

In a ceremony Tuesday, Gov. Jan Brewer signed a bill banning synthetic marijuana known as Spice or K2.

It is often marketed as "herbal incense" or "herbal smoking blends."

The governor's office says the chemical compounds in the drug can be up to 700 times more potent than the active ingredient in marijuana and can result in seizures or even stroke.

The new ban takes effect immediately.

Eleven other states have also banned synthetic marijuana.
