PHOENIX -- A jury has found an Iraqi immigrant guilty of second-degree murder in the death of his daughter.

Faleh Hassan Almaleki, 50, was also found guilty of aggravated assault and two counts of leaving the scene of an accident.

The verdict was announced at approximately 3 p.m. Tuesday.

During the trial, prosecutors told jurors that Almaleki ran down Noor Almaleki, 20, with his Jeep Cherokee because she had brought the family dishonor by becoming too Westernized.

Noor Almaleki died after two weeks in a coma.

Almaleki's Jeep also hit and seriously injured Amal Khalaf, the mother of Noor's boyfriend.

Khalaf testified that Almaleki made no effort to stop before she and Noor were hit in a Peoria parking lot in October 2009.

Defense lawyers said Almaleki was trying to spit on Khalaf but swerved and ended up running down both women.

Almaleki chose not to testify in his trial.

Almaleki could face 40 years in prison.
