1 Dead, 4 hurt in wreck in front of Phoenix mallPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) -- Police say one person died and two others were severely injured after the driver of a speeding truck ran a red light in front of a Phoenix shopping mall Saturday and hit three other vehicles.
It happened at about 9:40 a.m. at Cactus Road and Paradise Parkway in front of the Paradise Valley Mall.
A teenage girl or young woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Four other people were taken to the hospital. Two of them -- a man and a woman -- reportedly were in critical condition.
Sgt. Trent Crump of the Phoenix Police Department said the driver of the Toyota pickup that caused the accident was walking around after the wreck but was taken to a hospital because he was acting delusional. He was later released and will face charges of manslaughter and aggravated assault.
Police have not released any information about the suspect or the victims.
The rain slowed down both the investigation and the cleanup of pesticides that spilled on the roadway.
Police said they hoped to have the street back open by 7 p.m.
