Chandler police investigate gang-related shooting

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- Chandler police are investigating a gang-related shooting that injured an 18-year-old Friday morning.

Police spokesman Detective Frank Mendoza said officers responded to a shooting at approximately 10:20 a.m. at the Pepco Apartments near Ray Road and Arizona Avenue.

According to Mendoza, Ramiro Hernandez-Sanchez was shot in the wrist and abdomen. He was transported to a local hospital where he underwent surgery for his injuries. There is no word on his condition.

The suspect is not in custody at this time. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, with a medium build and 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall. He had tattoos on both arms and black hair. He was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and khaki pants.

The single-story apartment complex has been roped off with crime tape as police continue their search for evidence and the suspect.
