YUMA, Ariz. (AP) -- The National Earthquake Center in Golden, Colo., says a preliminary magnitude 5.1 earthquake struck Baja, Mexico, Friday south of San Luis, Ariz.

Seismologist John Bellini tells The Associated Press the quake hit 12 miles from Guadalupe Victoria, Mexico. Bellini says they received reports the quake was felt in Southern California and the border region in southwest Arizona including Yuma and San Luis.

Fairfield Inn Yuma front desk worker Danelia Hartley tells The AP she felt the quake and saw both the doors of the business and her computer shaking.

Authorities have not reported injuries or damage.

Belini says the area where the quake hit in Mexico is sparsely populated.
