Harsh winter weather has led to blood shortagePosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Severe weather across the country this winter, has led to a shortage of blood.
More than 850 blood drives have been canceled. The local Red Cross is looking for about 300 more blood donors in the next two weeks to help make up for the loss of 32,000 donations due to the weather.
"For one thing, you never know when you might need it, so it's good that someone's giving and it's just a good way to contribute to the community," said blood donor Michael Headrick.
The red cross distributes blood nationwide. There is a special need for O-negative and B-negative blood types.
Donors can make an appointment by visiting the American Red Cross on-line.
