Behind the Scenes: Day 2 GlendalePosted: Updated:

The clock on the corner of 58th Avenue and Glendale was the perfect iconic image for our spot. But to get the time lapse and shoot inside the clothing boutique required us to have two cameras. And one of those had to be set up awfully early! So Director of Photography, Shane Sisson, arrived at 6am to set up the camera that was focused on the clock.
It was awhile before owner Kathy Munniger arrived, so we huddled in our vehicles with our coffee and breakfast sandwiches until it was time to make magic! This was our largest crew day with the addition of Creative Services Producer Jim Grimsby and Editor Boy Wonder Ryan O’Connell.
We did all the shooting before the store opened and Kathy gave us the run of the joint. Check it out for women’s and men’s fashions.

In 1945, country music icon and Glendale, Arizona Native, Marty Robbins proposed to his wife right inside what is now Kathy’s Corner Boutique. At the time, it was the Uptown Malt Shop and Robbins was fresh from his WWII stint in the Navy. It was during his time in the service that he taught himself how to play guitar just to pass the time. The Grammy Award winner
was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1975. Robbins was also an avid race car driver and competed in 35 NASCAR races with six top ten finishes.
Kathy’s father and uncle first owned and operated a junior department store that was caddy corner from her current location. In 1990 the family bought their current building and when Kathy took over it was renamed Kathy’s Corner Boutique.
This isn’t the first time the iconic Glendale clock has been featured in a 3TV promo. And it isn’t the first time Kathy has been so gracious to us. In 2007, the Sparks Family from Glendale, Arizona was featured in our “Welcome Home” image campaign. At that time, we wanted to feature real families from across the state and former pro football standout Phillippi Sparks was recommended to us by the Glendale Chamber of Commerce for his volunteer work coaching youth. We shot at the end of May and it was brutally hot. In between takes, we sought refuge in a cooler place and Kathy graciously let us chill in her boutique. Dad Phillippi tried on several of Kathy’s cowboy hats!
I remember wishing hid daughter, Jordan, luck with her upcoming audition for American Idol! Who would have guessed what destiny had in store for this bright, sweet and talented young lady?! The whole family was as nice and gracious as could be. My other memory from that day was how beautiful Mrs. Sparks was. Jordan Sparks was the winner of the sixth season American Idol.
