PHOENIX – A horse was pulled from a Phoenix canal Wednesday evening after getting spooked.
Phoenix police said they received a call about the horse falling into a canal in the area of 75th Avenue and Camelback Road at about 6 p.m.
Officers say Eden Chinchillas, 14, was riding his horse, Sugar, when she somehow became spooked and fell into the canal.
“I was on the canal. My horse got scared so it jumped in the canal and then we swam together and I got out and we took her out,” Chinchillas said. “She’s swollen and everything, but she’s all right. She’ll make it.”
Sugar was stuck in 6 to 8 feet of water until a local rancher was able to pull her out using a front loader. The rider suffered only minor injuries and was able to get out of the canal on his own.
