SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) -- Left-hander Clay Zavada is undergoing a physical and is expected to arrive at Arizona Diamondback camp soon.
Zavada had reconstructive elbow surgery last season and was a no-show for the first day of spring training workouts after signing a minor league contract with Arizona in the offseason.
Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers said Zavada had apparently been considering retirement after the long rehabilitation process began to wear on him. He said Zavada changed his mind and is expected to work out with the team on Wednesday.
Zavada was 3-3 with a 3.95 ERA in 49 games for Arizona in 2009 before having Tommy John surgery in 2010.
