Arizona hospitals may soon check immigration statusPosted: Updated:
TUCSON, Ariz. -- Arizona may soon require hospitals check your immigration status, before giving you care.
The proposal is the latest push to crackdown on illegal immigration.
A state senate committee heard testimony on SB 1405 Monday. The bill would require hospitials to confirm if patients are in the country illegally before giving them non-emergency care, then contact immigration authorities if the patient is not.
If the person is seeking emergency care, immigration officials would be contacted once the patient is successfully treated.
