1 Wounded, suspect on the loose in Phoenix shootingPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX – Police are trying to piece together the events leading up to an overnight shooting that landed a Phoenix man in the hospital.
Officers were called to the Estancia del Sol apartments near 40th Avenue and Camelback Road just before midnight. Witnesses told police the victim, a 46-year-old white man, had been knocking on several doors in the complex. When he knocked on the suspect’s door, neighbors said they heard glass breaking and gunshots.
The victim was hit in the back. He made it back to his own apartment before collapsing. The man, whose name has not been released, was rushed to a local hospital. While his condition was not immediately available, his injury reportedly is life-threatening.
Officers, who were on the scene for hours, did not find anybody in the apartment where the shots are believed to have originated.
It’s still not clear exactly what led up to the shooting.
While investigators to not have a suspect at this point, they are looking for an investigative lead. According to Sgt. Steve Martos of the Phoenix Police Department, that investigative lead is a 25-year-old black man.
Police have not released any other information about either the investigative lead or the victim.
