GOODYEAR, Ariz. – A teen is in custody for allegedly taking a loaded gun to school with plans to shoot a teacher.

Cmdr. Ralph McLaughlin with the Goodyear Police Department said a 15-year-old student at Millennium High School took a loaded 9mm gun to school in his backpack on Monday.

The county attorney's office idenfied the student as Izrahias Morales, who is now being charged as an adult.

The student reportedly had plans to shoot his math teacher in the parking lot at the end of the day.

According to McLaughlin, Morales was mad at the teacher, who had told him last week that he would get a failing grade on a project if he did not complete it. He had not done any work on the project, which was due Monday.

Morales reportedly showed the gun off and another student reported the incident. Police were immediately called and he was taken into custody.

McLaughlin said the student obtained the gun from his home.

According to Jerry Cobb with the county attorney's office, Morales faces one count attempted murder and one count of minor in possession of a firearm.

A letter was sent out to parents notifying them of the incident.

On Tuesday, McLaughlin said police and school officials will be working together to review security measures on the campus.
