Police need helping identifying suspect in fatal nightclub shooting

CHANDLER, Ariz. - Chandler police are looking for a suspect involved a late-night fatal shooting.

Just after midnight Saturday, a fight broke out at Leonardo's, a nightclub for ages 18 and older near Warner Road and Arizona Avenue.

According to police, a crowd gathered in front of the club and the suspect grew agitated with the victim, Sir Xavier Brooks, who was not involved in the confrontation.

Brooks held up his hands and backed away from the suspect, but the suspect pulled out a handgun and shot Brooks then fled the scene on foot.

Brooks was transported to the hospital where he later died from his gunshot injury.

The suspect is described as a black male, 18 to 20 years old, about 5 feet 7 inches tall with a thin build and dark skin. He was wearing a red baseball-style cap, white T-shirt, jeans and red Chuck Taylor shoes.

Detectives are asking anyone with information on the identity of the suspect to contact them. There were more than 100 people at Leonardo's and Chandler police encourage anyone to call 480-782-4130 with information. You can remain anonymous.

The family has set up a memorial fund at Wells Fargo Bank with account number 6861600549. They are also having two car washes that  will be held this weekend February 19, both from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m.

One is at the Walgreens at 24th Street and Baseline Road in Phoenix and the second location is 7 Eleven at 1210 W Guadalupe Road in Mesa (cross streets Guadalupe and Alma School roads).
