'Your OWN Show' finalist Terey Summers

PHOENIX -- Valley resident Terey Summers is -- and always has been -- Tara Hitchcock's pick to win "Your OWN Show."  It's on the new Oprah Winfrey Network and it's exactly what it sounds like -- contestants compete for their own television show on OWN.

Summers, 46, started her OWN journey in May, and while she knows who the winner is, she's not talking. She's not allowed to.

She says the experience has been an amazing one, but there was much tragedy and heartache to get where she is now.

Summers, who lives in Goodyear, lost her husband two years ago, but instead of letting it destroy her, she found the ambition and perseverance to take on two major challenges.

"I wanted to get myself healthy and I'm still on the road to that," she told Hitchcock. "I lost 170 pounds. And then I want to do a talk show so I put something together to pitch here locally, and before I could do that, Oprah Winfrey says 'Hey! I'm lookin' for somebody.' So, I hurried and got something on there."

Out of more than 15,000 applicants, Summers was among the 10 chosen to compete. Now she and Valley-born Ryan O'Connor are in the top five.

"I love him," Summers said of O'Connor. He is also a fan of hers.

As for the experience of being on "The OWN Show," Summers has loved every minute and learned more than she thought possible.

"It's really been a thrill," she said. "The experience is an experience I couldn't pay to get -- the education, the whole thing. I couldn't believe it was happening to me."

Summers, @TereySummers on Twitter, is hosting a viewing party this evening, 6:15-8:30, at Community of Grace Lutheran Church, 10561 W. Pinnacle Peak Road (107th Avenue and Pinnacle Peak Road), Peoria.
