Police recover stolen hockey equipment

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Peoria Police Department has recovered the trailer and hockey equipment belonging to a Canadian youth hockey team.

On Jan. 15, the team was in town for a tournament when the trailer they rented to transport their equipment was stolen from their hotel near 83rd Avenue and Bell Road.

Personnel at a Youngtown retirement community noticed the trailer during routine security checks the same day but didn't know the trailer was stolen.

They ended up contacting the rental agency listed on the trailer who notified Peoria police on Feb. 1.

The hockey team returned to Canada and their community assisted them through donations from a local insurance company to replace the stolen equipment, valued at approximately $45,000.

It does not appear the equipment was removed from the trailer and the only damage was a broken padlock on the trailer.

The case remains under investigation. Police have no suspects.
