Casa Grande man ejected from vehicle during fatal crashPosted: Updated:
FLORENCE, Ariz. -- A 19-year-old Casa Grande man died after being ejected during a single-vehicle crash near Florence early Sunday morning.
Shortly before 1 a.m., Pinal County sheriff's deputies responded to a crash on Whitlow Ranch Road approximately six miles north of Florence Kelvin Highway and found Manuel Bingochea dead at the scene.
The driver, Donny Ramos Jr., 19, of Glendale, and back-seat passenger Joseph Flores, 19, of Florence, were not injured.
Sheriff's spokesman Tim Gaffney said an investigation revealed that Ramos was speeding on the dirt road when he failed to negotiate an upcoming turn and lost control of his vehicle. The Chevy Suburban rolled over and Bingochea was ejected.
Bingochea was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Gaffney said the man would have survived if he had been restrained.
Alcohol and drug impairment do not appear to be factors in the collision, according to Gaffney. He said speed and reckless driving contributed to the crash.
The Pinal County Sheriff's Office will submit this case to the Pinal County Attorney's Office and request that Ramos be charged with manslaughter.
