Woman in wheelchair dies after being hit by pick-up truckPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX - Phoenix police and fire are piecing together the details of a truck-pedestrian accident involving a woman in a wheelchair.
According to the Phoenix Fire Department they received reports around 7: 30 p.m. of a person in a wheelchair that was hit by a car near 7th Street and Vogel Road.
Phoenix police said a Mary Jo Johnson, 56, was crossing 7th Street heading westbound mid-block when she was struck by a vehicle traveling southbound.
Johnson was in a wheelchair and was thrown when a Dodge pick-up, driven by a 42-year-old driver, struck her. She died on scene.
Police are continuing their investigatation into the accident. They said impairment does not appear to be a factor in the accident.
