Key witness takes stand in trial against Iraqi father accused of murderPosted: Updated:
PHOENIX (AP) - A woman who survived being run over by a Jeep driven by an Iraqi immigrant says he made no effort to stop before she and the man's daughter were hit.
Amal Khalaf testified Thursday at the murder and attempted murder trial of Faleh Almaleki that she screamed "No! No! No! No!" at him and held up her hands before his Jeep hit her in a suburban Phoenix parking lot in October 2009.
Almaleki's 20-year-old daughter, Noor Almaleki, died.
Authorities accuse Almaleki of targeting her because she had brought the family dishonor by becoming too Westernized.
Almaleki has pleaded not guilty and his lawyers say he was angry at Khalaf and was trying to spit on her. They contend he swerved but could not avoid what they call a horrible accident.
