TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — A funeral will be held Friday in Tucson for the civilian pilot of a Pima County Sheriff's Department helicopter that crashed on the side of a mountain.
The funeral for 60-year-old Loren Leonberger is open to the public and will be held at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Chapel East.
The helicopter went down on Waterman Mountain on Monday as the four-person crew was scouting an area for possible locations for radio communications towers. The three other crew members survived the crash.
Leonberger had been with the sheriff's department since November 2008.
He was a Vietnam veteran and previously was a pilot for the Army National Guard, Maricopa County Sheriff's Office and Arizona Department of Public Safety.
